On February 5, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev met with the head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Election Observation Mission, Ambassador Peter Taylor and election analyst Ms. Maša Janjušević.
The Chairman of the State Committee informed the guests about the current state of and state care shown to refugees and IDPs who were displaced from their homeland as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In addition, it was stated that Armenia continues to violate a number of fundamental rights, including the right of voting of these people through its policy of occupation.
The Chairman of the State Committee said he was hopeful for IDPs to take an active part in the early parliamentary elections to be held in our country on February 9 and it would be impossible for central and local executive powers to interfere in the election process
Ambassador Peter Tyler thanked for the warm reception and detailed information. Referring to information which he received from the Central Election Commission, he stated that IDPs will vote in more than 500 polling stations in 14 constituencies, and that OSCE observers will carry out their missions in those constituencies and stations.
The Chairman of the State Committee answered the questions of head of ODIHR Election Observation Mission and the election analyst and wished them to successfully complete their missions.
