The first stage of the Internally Displaced Youth Support Program, which is a subcomponent of the Project for Support (Extra financing) of IDP Living Conditions and Income Opportunities implemented under co-financing of the Government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank, was completed.
An event was held regarding this on November 29 in Ganja with participation of representatives of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, the World Bank, other relevant authorities and media.
Participants of the event were informed that addressing the social problems of IDPs is always in the center of attention of the President Ilham Aliyev. Consistent measures are being taken to improve their housing and living conditions, provide employment, and increase financial wellbeing. At the initiative of the First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, appropriate work is being done to increase the state care for IDPs, as well as support the private sector in addressing problems in this field.
It was noted that they plan to involve 2500 internally displaced young people in vocational trainings in the country, have them gain knowledge in the chosen fields, get experience and receive certificates and equipment at the end of the training under the program, the first stage of which is completed.
According to the terms of the project, the program is implemented in 3 stages. In the first stage, 833 of the displaced young people received 6 months of vocational and 3 months of computer training. Young people who successfully completed their training were also involved in 15-day “Business Management” trainings.
Internally displaced young people attended the trainings on more than 40 professions – accountant, tailor, locksmith, carpenter, hairdresser, plastic door and window maker, designer, furniture maker, carpet-waver, video operator, photographer, confectioner, painter, welder, gas operator, computer operator, etc. within the project.
Starting November 19, the young people who have successfully completed their vocational trainings and passed business training exams and whose business plans have been approved by the Project Executive Committee, have been provided with appropriate tools and equipment to start their own businesses.
