On October 23, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, met with Edward Carwardine, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Azerbaijan.
The guest was informed about the goals and results of the state policy on refugees and IDPs in our country, the recent events. It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev has made important decisions to strengthen social protection of the people from this category and to improve their living conditions. The number of settlements built for them is increasing year by year, and thousands of displaced families are relocated to new homes and apartments every year. First Vice President, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, is focused on solving the problems of IDPs.
Edward Carwardine thanked for warm reception. Some priority activities that could affect long-term development of children and youth from IDP families were discussed in the meeting. The sides spoke about ensuring participation of IDP families in UNICEF-supported programs and exchanged views on other issues.
Exchange of views was held on issues of mutual interest.
