On July 11, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev met with the delegation led by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Dunja Mijatovic, who is on a visit to our country.
The Chairman of the State Committee informed the guest about hardships, moral and material losses of over 1 million 200,000 citizens becoming refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh war, as well as international organizations' attitudes towards the solution of the problem, the work done by our state within its capabilities and the tasks ahead. It was noted that aggressor Armenia still continues to violate the rights of hundreds of thousands of people, who are the ancient owners of these territories, still keeping Azerbaijani territories under occupation. At the same time, it was noted that a well-thought and effective public policy is being implemented in Azerbaijan for affairs of refugees and internally displaced persons. President Ilham Aliyev defined improvement of living conditions and material wellbeing of the internally displaced persons as one of the priorities of social policy. First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva conducts purposeful work to solve the problems of internally displaced persons.
Dunya Mijatovic thanked for the meeting and detailed information and said that highly appreciates cooperation with the State Committee and that main goal of this visit was to provide comprehensive assistance in the field of human and civil rights and freedoms and to support this process.
Reminding the meeting with internally displaced persons in the dormitory of the Azerbaijan Technical University in Yasamal district of Baku city and "Shusha town" in Sabunchu district on July 9, Dunya Mijatovic said that she will visit our country again.
A number of other issues were also discussed at the meeting, and the guests' questions were answered in detail.
