A series of training sessions on “Awareness of Risks and Safe Behavior” are continuing through the joint collaboration between the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (AzRCS). The main objective of these informative training sessions is to increase the awareness of internally displaced persons, who are planned to be gradually relocated to the liberated territories under the implementation of the First State Program on the Great Return, about mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO), thereby minimizing potential risk factors.
The training sessions, conducted in “Door-to-Door” and “School” formats, are carried out by a team of specialists and volunteers from AzRCS. In the “Door-to-Door” sessions, trainers visit homes to provide essential information to family members and answer their questions. In the “School” sessions, training is conducted interactively in classrooms for groups of students.
In both formats of the training, information about warning and informational signs is provided, educational brochures are distributed, theoretical and practical materials are used, and state agencies and contact details to be reached in case of danger are reminded.
As a result, the awareness of more than 1,700 former internally displaced persons temporarily settled in the Mehdiabad settlement of the Absheron district regarding mine hazards has been increased.
It should be noted that in the first phase, training sessions were organized separately for citizens and students in the “Gobustan Park” residential complex in the Garadagh district of Baku, where former internally displaced persons are temporarily settled. So far, more than 5,000 people have been involved in educational training on mine and UXO hazards. It is planned to continue these training sessions in other areas densely populated by former internally displaced persons.
