The State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, together with the Social Development Fund for Internally Displaced Persons, organized a tree planting campaign with the participation of local residents in the reconstructed Zabukh village of Lachin district as a part of the 2024 “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” in Azerbaijan.
The purpose of organizing the action was to promote the improvement of the environmental situation, the increase of greenery, environmental protection and encouragement of care for nature in the territories of Azerbaijan, which the occupying Armenia subjected to environmental terror and turned into a regional environmental disaster zone.
Based on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, in addition to rapid restoration and construction work in Karabakh and East Zangazur, the restoration of the local flora and fauna, the preservation of natural resources, and their efficient utilization are given particular consideration. The head of state and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva participate in activities to restore the ecosystem during their visits to the territories liberated from occupation.
Seven thousand fruit and ornamental trees were planted in residents' yards, roadsides and recreation areas during the campaign took place in the Zabukh village. The first tree seedling was planted in the yard of Ziyadkhan Mammadov, the son of Adalat Mammadov, who was martyred in the battle for the Hochaz village in the Lachin region in 1992.
It was noted that such campaigns will be organized regularly, former internally displaced persons returning to their homeland will be supported to participate in the elimination of the consequences of ecocide in resettled and reconstructed settlements in Karabakh and East Zangazur. The campaign was attended by MP Mahir Abbaszada, a representative of the special presidential delegation in the Lachin region, as well as village residents.
