The State Committee for Affairs of the Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan organized a presentation ceremony for their documentary film, “Here is my home”. Participants in the event included leadership of the State Committee, members of the Milli Majlis, state representatives, social activists, and internally displaced people.
In the movie, a young guy named Jeyhun Garabaghli—who was born and raised in America—discusses his experiences traveling to Suleymanli village in the Jabrayil, the hometown of his grandparents.
Nasimi Narimanov, advisor to the chairman of State Committee, described the public premiere of the film during the celebration of the third anniversary 44-day Patriotic War and the year of Heydar Aliyev as a momentous occasion. It was underlined that the great leader’s ambitions have been realized and that President Ilham Aliyev is in charge of overseeing extensive reconstruction efforts in the liberated areas. It was claimed that the state is providing constant attention and care for internally displaced people (IDPs), and that they are starting to return home voluntarily, safely, and with dignity. The priority for President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva is to create pleasant living conditions for internally displaced people who are returning to Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.
It was stated that Jeyhun’s altruistic attitude toward Azerbaijan, specifically his birthplace village, which he has not yet seen, was the inspiration behind the idea to turn his travel impression into a film and give it to our culture and the global audience as a patriotic story. The most significant quality about our country and people is this mindset. As the result of our people’s struggle for freedom and a renewed sense of national identity, Jeyhun and his peers are constantly willing to work for the betterment of Karabakh, Eastern Zangazur, and Azerbaijan as a whole.
Despite being born in New Jersey, the movie’s protagonist Jeyhun Garabaghli stated in his address that his grandfather’s birthplace, Suleymanli village in the Jabrayil district, will always hold a special place in his heart. This journey represents a bridge connecting two homes, two worlds, and two civilizations rather than that of a single person. “The liberation of territories from occupation under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev allowed people living far away like me to reunite with their ancestral homeland” our American compatriot remarked, honoring the martyrs’ souls who gave their lives in defense of the ancient lands of Azerbaijan from occupation and expressing gratitude to their families and veterans.
Audience reaction to the movie was positive.
