On August 2, Rovshan Rzayev, chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, met with a group of journalists and media experts working in the United States accredited at the UN headquarters.
The guests were informed in detail about the causes of the problem of refugee and IDP in our country, the severe consequences of Armenia's deportation and occupation policy, the deprivations faced by more than one million Azerbaijanis expelled from their homeland, the organization of their social protection and the activities of the state committee, as well as the situation after the 44-day Patriotic War, the works done in connection with the Great Return.
It was noted that refugees and IDPs are constantly surrounded by the attention and care of the state, and President Ilham Aliyev has identified the solution of their problems as one of the priorities of social policy. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva also pays special attention to all issues related to IDPs.
It was noted that purposeful work is carried out to achieve voluntary, safe and dignified return of IDPs. The process of Great Return is gradually expanding, necessary measures are taken to ensure sustainable settlement and employment of IDPs in the liberated territories. 86 families (420 people) have already been moved to Aghali village, newly built on the basis of “Smart Village” concept in Zangilan region, 20 families (94 people) to Talish village of Tartar region, 180 families (700 people) to Lachin city.
The guests were also informed about the committee's relations with international organizations and joint projects.
Then the chairman and responsible employees of the State Committee answered the questions of journalists.
The initiator of the visit of foreign media representatives to our country, journalist Vusala Abbasova, who continues her education at Yale University of the United States and works in the US Bureau of Report Information Agency, thanked for the warm welcome. He said that the purpose of the visit was to convey to the world community the truth about the atrocities committed by Armenians in our historical lands, the restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the situation in the region in the post-war period. It was noted that the delegation visited Fuzuli and Zangilan regions and got acquainted with the destruction committed during the occupation, as well as the restoration and reconstruction works carried out now.
The delegation included Afram Kosafi, head of the UN Bureau of Arab News, military correspondent of world-famous media organizations (Fox TV, CNN, Al Jazeera) in the conflict areas in Afghanistan, Iraq and South Lebanon, Paola Vargas, a well-known blogger, correspondent of the influential television network of the Republic of Colombia (Caracol TV and Canal 1) in New York and Washington, Paolo von Schirach, founder and chief editor of the Schirach Report, Selcuk Acar, photojournalist of the US bureau of Anadolu Agency, founder of Turkish Journal, and Kelvin Dark, a well-known journalist and political commentator, president of RC Communications.
