On July 26, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, met with Novruz Aslanov, President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (AzRCS) and a member of the Milli Majlis, and Davron Mukhamadiev, the Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Country Cluster Delegation for the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, the guests were informed of the work done by the Committee on the implementation of the State Program on the Great Return, the organization of the return of IDPs, the progress of promotional, explanatory, and agitation activities carried out in this direction, and the initial results of the resettlement. It was reported that, in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, necessary conditions are being created to ensure the safety and comfortable living of IDPs returning to their native lands. Attention was drawn to the fact that within the framework of the Great Return, 236 families and 1023 people have been resettled to newly built and restored settlements in the liberated territories. During surveys conducted among IDPs, the majority expressed their desire to return to their native lands.
The Chairman of the State Committee highly appreciated the support of international organizations, including the IFRC, in addressing humanitarian issues related to refugees and IDPs in our country, expressed deep satisfaction with the intention to continue this support during the Great Return process, and emphasized the significant importance of long-term cooperation with the AzRCS.
Novruz Aslanov, the President of the AzRCS, highlighted that the organization headed by him, as the largest non-governmental organization in the country, considers providing continuous support for the successful implementation of the state policy on refugees and IDPs as one of its most important activities and noted that the AzRCS actively participates in meeting the humanitarian needs of people experiencing displacement for a long time and is now diligently trying to fulfill its responsibilities even at the time when the Great Return has started.
Davron Mukhamadiev, the Head of the IFRC Country Cluster Delegation for the South Caucasus, expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception and discussed the main directions of the organization's activities in accordance with its mandate in our country, outlined measures related to the return to the liberated territories, and shared his views on cooperation opportunities with the State Committee in the new situation.
During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
At the end, the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies signed a Letter of Intent regarding the organization of partnerships between organizations, including civil society institutions, to provide support to refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan
