The inaugural gathering of the newly elected 13-member Public Council under the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs in the Republic of Azerbaijan was held on July 14. Anar Khalilov secured his position as the Council's chairman through re-election. Khatira Valiyeva and Sabuhi Huseynov were selected to deputy chair roles, while Irada Nasirova was selected as secretary.
Subsequently, the Council members convened with the Committee's leadership.
Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee, extended congratulations to the civil society representatives who are poised to contribute within the council's new framework and wished them success.
The Council members received an update on ongoing activities within the state policy on refugees and internally displaced persons, the committee's responsibilities as outlined in the "First State Program on the Great Return to the territories liberated from occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan," approved by President Ilham Aliyev. The discourse encompassed initiatives in Karabakh and East Zangezur, detailing resident resettlement in newly established and restored residential areas, resolution of employment challenges, and welfare of internally displaced persons.
It was reiterated that our citizens, who have endured years of displacement, remain a focal point of attention and care for the President. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva also remains deeply engaged in addressing their problems and providing steadfast support.
The assembly underscored that the newly formed Public Council commences its responsibilities during a pivotal juncture, wherein the Great Return initiative is rapidly gaining traction. A vote of confidence was expressed that the council members would contribute significantly to the seamless continuation of this process.
Aligning with effective legislation and societal interests, members of the Public Council pledged support for effective realization of state policy in the domain of refugee and IDP affairs. Their commitment encompassed active participation in campaigns, relevant activities, and events linked to the Great Return, alongside robust advocacy for the rights and concerns of refugees and IDPs.
