Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Fuad Huseynov met with official of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Azerbaijan Ms. Ji Youn Woo. The issues of humanitarian aid to be provided by the embassy to IDP families were discussed at the meeting.
Fuad Huseynov informed the guests about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and its grave consequences. Armenia’s policy of military aggression and occupation have led to the expulsion of 1 million 200 thousand Azerbaijanis from their lands, and our country facing refugee and IDP problems. The Azerbaijani state is constantly working to solve these problems, and the priority duties set by President Ilham Aliyev are being consistently implemented. Major projects are being implemented on the initiative and under the leadership of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. Attention is always paid to the issues of social protection of IDPs, improvement of their living conditions, and increase of their employment opportunities.
It was noted that the Azerbaijani state has built its activities on the integration of IDPs into the society in two directions, solving their social problems, improving their living conditions, and the other is the full implementation of the “Great Return” program, which we are already on the verge of.
It was noted that in response to the large-scale provocations launched by the Armenian armed forces on September 27 this year, the victorious Azerbaijani Army launched counter-offensive operations to end the occupation of our lands. There are dead and injured among civilians, including IDPs, as a result of the incessant shelling of settlements near the Azerbaijani frontline by the occupying forces, which were defeated on the battlefield and constantly retreated. More than 350 apartments temporarily inhabited by IDPs in Tartar, Aghdam, Fuzuli and Goranboy regions were partially or completely destroyed. About 15 thousand people are at risk of being displaced for the second time.
The official of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in our country Ms. Ji Yoon Woo expressed regret over the death of civilians as a result of the attack by the Armenian armed forces. It was noted that the embassy will provide aids to IDPs, given the conflict situation of IDP families and the sharp increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus. The aid will consist of blankets and medical supplies.
The deputy chairman of the committee thanked for the aids to the IDPs and said that the committee could support the transportation, storage and delivery of the aids to the families.
Other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
