On September 19, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, received Mrs. Monika Lehnhard, Deputy Head of the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Chairman of the State Committee warmly welcomed the guest and stressed the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany. The German diplomats were informed that over 1 million 200,000 Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and comprehensive information was provided about the consequences of this humanitarian disaster and the measures taken by the state and government to eliminate them. It was noted that purposeful and continuous work is carried out to solve social problems of IDPs and improve their living conditions. In the framework of the State Program implemented at the initiative and under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, new residential complexes are built, and the IDPs are provided with decent living conditions. Realization of the instructions of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva continues regarding move of internally displaced persons still living in the most difficult conditions to new apartments first.
Stressing special attention to the German heritage in our country, the Chairman of the State Committee said that these factors had an impact on further expansion of relations between the two countries. The Chairman of the Committee expressed his gratitude for the projects implemented by the international humanitarian and development organizations of the Federal Republic of Germany on IDPs in our country. Importance of the cooperation in this area highlighted.
The German diplomat thanked for the warm welcome and spoke about the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.
The prospects of future cooperation were also discussed at the meeting.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig also attended the meeting.
