On August 8, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in our country Wolfgang Manig.
The ambassador was informed at the meeting about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its severe consequences.
It was noted that 4 UN resolutions on the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan are not being implemented. For more than 20 years, Nagorno-Karabakh and its 7 surrounding regions have been under occupation. Armenia`s military aggression and policy of occupation caused the displacement of 1 million 200 thousand of Azerbaijani from their lands and as a result our country faced refugee and IDP problems. Chairman of the State Committee underlined the importance of the fact that Germany, as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, should play a more active role in the settlement of the conflict. Azerbaijani government is constantly working on the solution of these problems, and the priority tasks defined by the President Ilham Aliyev are consistently fulfilled. At the initiative and under the guidance of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, large projects are being implemented. Constant attention is paid to the issues like social protection of IDPs, improvement of their housing and living conditions and increasing employment opportunities.
Expressing his gratitude for the warm meeting, Ambassador Wolfgang Manig noted that the Federal Republic of Germany was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan`s independence. The ambassador underlined that Baku, where he first visited in 1994, had changed and developed significantly.
Chairman of the State Committee expressed gratitude for the projects implemented by international humanitarian and development organizations of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding IDPs in our country. The importance of cooperation in this area was mentioned.
The German ambassador expressed confidence that the existing efficient cooperation will further continue to develop. During the conversation it was noted that the Federal Republic of Germany is interested in implementation of projects regarding IDPs in our country.
The prospects of future cooperation were also discussed at the meeting.
