On May 13, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, met with Vladimir Georgiyev, newly appointed head of the Representative Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan.
Chairman of the State Committee congratulated the guest on the occasion of beginning of his activity in our country.
Vladimir Georgiyev was informed in detail about the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and humanitarian problems arisen as a result of it. It was stated that over 1 million 200 thousand refugees and IDPs were forced to leave their homeland as a result of this conflict and our country had to face serious challenges. Nevertheless, the Azerbaijani government always keeps solution of the problems of individuals who were exposed to moral, physical and material deprivations in the center of attention. This issue is of the priorities of the President Ilham Aliyev`s social policy. The scope of work done in Azerbaijan to improve the housing and living conditions and material security of refugees and IDPs is large. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva and Heydar Aliyev Foundation managed by her have important services in this area.
Chairman of the State Committee also spoke about the activities of international organizations regarding humanitarian assistance to refugees and IDPs in our country. The importance of the projects implemented by IOM in this area was underlined and gratitude was expressed.
The head of the Representative Office of IOM in Azerbaijan Vladimir Georgiyev thanked for the warm reception and underlined that he will use all reasonable efforts to further expand cooperation with the State Committee.
Views were exchanged on the issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
