A promotional and public awareness event dedicated to the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” was organized in the city of Lachin by the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, with the support of the Presidential Special Representative Office in Lachin and the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy. Held under the slogan “Clean Environment and Green Growth Country”, the event aimed to support the green energy zone during the period of the “Great Return” and involved the participation of local residents who have returned to the region.
Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, emphasized the importance of the returning population’s contributions to ecosystem restoration and environmental protection, noting that President Ilham Aliyev has declared the liberated territories as a “green energy zone”. He highlighted the active efforts being made to establish ecologically clean and efficient energy sources in these areas. Huseynov also reminded attendees that Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which he described as a demonstration of the international community’s confidence in Azerbaijan’s efforts towards a “green transition”. He added that the State Committee, in collaboration with the Social Development Fund for Internally Displaced Persons, is implementing a series of events in 2024 under the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World”, including a tree-planting campaign with local residents in the newly rebuilt Zabukh village in Lachin.
At the event, officials from the Presidential Special Representative Office in Lachin, Galib Abasov, and the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources, Turkan Gasimova, discussed the significance of creating a “green energy” zone as one of the key directions for socio-economic development in the liberated areas and provided information on future work in this area.
The presentation by trainer Orkhan Guluzada on solar panels was met with interest. He provided detailed information on the characteristics, usage and safety of solar panels used for energy supply in the restored and newly built residential areas in the liberated territories.
Brochures published by the State Committee, dedicated to “Ecology and Environmental Protection” and highlighting the history of Lachin as well as the reconstruction efforts that began after the occupation, were distributed to the event participants as part of the implementation of the Great Return State Program I.
