In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, a tournament was organized among forcibly displaced schoolchildren in the school gymnasium of the "Gobu Park 2" residential complex in the Garadagh district of Baku. This event was made possible through the support of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, as well as the Azerbaijan Full contact Kyokushin Karate Federation and "Huner" sports club.
The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a moment of silence to honour the memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and brave martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Azerbaijan's freedom, independence, and territorial integrity.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Chairman Rovshan Rzayev highlighted the contributions of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He emphasized the National Leader's unwavering dedication to the advancement of sports and physical education, as well as his commitment to the development of the younger generation. It was emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev has continued this strategic vision, fostering an environment where favourable conditions abound for the entire population, including children and youth, to actively participate in physical education and sports. It was also mentioned that our athletes have attained remarkable accomplishments, solidifying Azerbaijan's reputation as a prominent sporting nation, hosting prestigious international competitions. Moreover, it was emphasized that children from displaced families have actively engaged in various sports and had impressive results.
It was also acknowledged that First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva exhibits sensitivity towards the challenges faced by refugees and IDPs. It was further emphasized that she extends comprehensive support to safeguard the physical and emotional well-being of children and teenagers from these families, ensure their access to education, and facilitate cultural development.
It was also mentioned that as part of the ongoing efforts to promote widespread participation in sports and physical education within settlements designated for IDPs essential facilities and grounds have been established, specialized divisions have been set up to cater to various sports disciplines.
The tournament featured participation of 50 athletes, representing various sport clubs, who competed across five age groups and multiple weight categories, comprising children aged between 6 and 15 years old. This event was organized with the objective of fostering a greater interest in the sport of full contact kyokushin karate, instilling essential qualities such as agility and stamina in the young participants.
Vice-president of Azerbaijan Kyokushin Karate Federation, Allahverdi Rustamov, as well as the founder and director of "Huner Group," Ehtiram Guliyev and others were among observers of the tournament.
Winners received medals and certificates, recognizing their achievements in the tournament.
