A member of France Senate Mrs. Natalie Guli meets internally displaced persons settled in the capital

A member of the France Senate Mrs. Natalie Guli and the persons accompanying her who is paying a visit to Azerbaijan met with IDPs settled temporarily in Darnagul settlement in Hostel 1 of Baku Management and Technology College. She was welcomed here by the Deputy Head of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Issues (SCR) Mr. Garay Farhadov. Deputy Head informed about the history and results of Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as well as the army of refugees and internally displaced persons, the damage impaired to Azerbaijan economy as a result of occupying policy of neighboring state, talked about the works performed in the direction of improvement of housing-living condition of refugees and internally displaced persons. He noted with feeling of regret that four known resolutions of UN Security Council in respect to this conflict remained unsolved. Mrs. Natalie Guli reminded that this is her second visit to Azerbaijan. She had a notion about this conflict then on the ground of information she obtained here a few months ago. The senator stated: “I addressed with a question to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Senate that which measures were taken in order to vacate the territories being under the occupation of Armenia, return of internally displaced persons to their native lands in Azerbaijan?” This time I’ll demand a concrete response as I return. I’ll propose that a conforming group be formed in our parliament for the purpose of assistance to Minsk Group. I understand your state well, unfortunately, most of the French people don’t know where Caucasus is situated”. The guest visited the apartment of internally displaced person Abbas Aliyev from Fuzuli region, had a talk with his family members and other habitants. She was informed that though the families increased during eighteen years, their housing condition hasn’t changed. For example, the son of the family grew and got married. Now two families live in this two-room apartment. Natalie Guli noted that the women had to visit region frequently, mothers had to engage this issue. A place should also be allotted for women in the structure of Minsk Group exactly. I’ll deliver the information that I have obtained in an order as they contribute to the solution of the problem. An internally displaced person from Aghdam region Vali Garabaghli called to French senator’s notice that the people settled there had been banished from their native homes by reason of Armenian occupation, had been living there in hard condition for 18 years, their desire to return their native lands. An Aghsaqqal (a person of reputation) reminded Alexandre Dumas’ Caucasus journey, his abidance in Azerbaijan, his meeting with the daughter of Khan Natavan, listed up to 10 cities of France in reply to the guest’s phrase “The French people don’t know where Caucasus is situated”. He concluded his opinion so: “I invite the President of France who is a co-chairman of Minsk Group to Azerbaijan that he come and get familiarized with our country, talk the truth to his people that he saw here. I say well in advance that we don’t need any humanitarian aid. Our country, thank God, is rich, the head of our State keeps spending this wealth for the welfare of people in the limelight. Building settlements for internally displaced persons is a result of this attention”. Furthermore, the guests visited the 369-family block of buildings constructed recently in the territory of house building factory 2. Natalie Guli and the persons accompanying her visited Elshen Hasanalaiyev’s new apartment who is an internally displaced person from Jabrayil region. The members of the family emphasized that they were pleased with the care of State, but their main desire was to return their native homes. The senator was interested in internally displaced persons’ employment. Garay Farhadov informed that to date 150 thousand people out of 300 thousand employable internally displaced persons had been provided with permanent jobs, 178 thousand people with seasonable jobs, 15 thousand people had been granted the status of unemployment. Garay Farhadov said in reply to guest’s question about co-existence of Azerbaijanians and Armenians that Azerbaijan and Armenia are forced to be neighbors. None of these people will move about. The only way is the solution of conflict by peaceful means and peaceful coexistence of both people. This is the position held just by the leadership of Azerbaijan. Natalie Guli visited School 4 of Zangilan region acting here and got familiarized with the condition. The principal of school Jabrayil Shikhiyev answered the questions that interested her. The guest was accompanied by ambassador of our country in France Mr. Elchin Amirbayov.
