Journalists representing “Avenue Europe” Association were given detailed information about the causes and consequences of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the situation of refugees and internally displaced persons.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and internally displaced persons, chairman of Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid, Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the journalists representing “Avenue Europe” Association, registered in Strasbourg, France on May 1 and connecting correspondents of leading media institutions of various member countries accredited near the Council of Europe.
Ali Hasanov provided information about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, history of the problem and the condition of refugees and internally displaced persons in our country. It was noted that Azerbaijanis were subjected to move by force from their native land several times, to ethnic cleansing and deportation policy as a result of complicated political processes in the South Caucasus region over the last 200.
Deputy Prime Minister brought to the attention of members of the press that 20 percent of our lands - Nagorno- Karabakh region seven surrounding regions were occupied as a result of military aggression of Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijan, more than one million compatriots have become refugees and internally displaced persons, national and cultural wealth had been plundered, destroyed the entire infrastructure media representatives.
Ignoring the demands of the international community, Armenia continues its illegal activity in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Process of negotiations ongoing through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group for more than 20 years has yielded no results yet.
Ali Hasanov noted that official Baku is interested the conflict peaceful and fair solution of the conflict and stated that the government of Azerbaijan does great works both in legal and socio-economic fields in order to meet the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons. In order to solve the social problems of refugees and internally displaced persons the government of Azerbaijan has spent 5.4 billion USD in the last 20 years. 82 modern settlements and blocks have been built for the refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of the president’s attention and care to this field. 180 thousand refugees and internally displaced people moved to new settlements at the expense of the funds allocated from the State Oil Fund of the Azerbaijan Republic and this process continues. Deputy Prime Minister stated that humanitarian programs were carried out for refugees displaced from their native lands as a result of the conflict.
At the meeting, it was brought to the attention of the journalists that the purpose of the visit was to support informing the world community about the history, culture, statehood traditions, and economic potential of the country, most importantly, about Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its grave consequences in details, and exchange of more information and expansion of mutual relations more. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has developed dynamically in the short term after the restoration of the country’s independence.
