“Fuji Optical” (Japan) completed its activity on the provision of service to refugees, IDPs and needy families intended for this year.

Deputy Prime Minister, the chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs, chairman of Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid, Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the president of “Fuji Optical” Ltd., the world-famous ophthalmologist Akio Kanai who was conferred to “Nansen refugee award” in 2006. Expressing his gratitude to doctor Akio Kanai and personnel lead by him for optometric service provided free of cost to refugees, IDPs and needy families Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Hasanov mentioned that the execution of this meritorious mission for more than 10 years proved high relations between Japan and Azerbaijan governments and noted it as the best sample of provision of all necessary conditions for operation of organizations of Japan. Speaking about the development of our country under the guidance of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, being of this country in the focus of the world, the relations between Japan-Azerbaijan A.Hasanov expressed his regret for the military aggression of Armenia and non-solution of the conflict yet. The goal of this mission realised with the organizational support of the representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan is the provision of ophthalmologic service to refugees, IDPs and needy families in Azerbaijan. It was mentioned that in general, more than 19 thousand refugees and IDP, needy families were examined and about 18 thousand people were provided with spectacles only during this meritorious mission carried out by the representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan with the support of Azerbaijan government in the previous 10 years. In this year, the free eye examination and spectacle distribution for refugees, IDPs, needy families were carried out by Doctor Kanai and his 6 optometrist experts in Imishli, Beylagan, Khojavand and Fuzuli on April 22-26 as well as in Baku city, at the Refugee, Woman and Youth Center of UNHCR on April 28. During the mission carried out this year, in general, 2400 people were examined and more than 2 thousand spectacles were prepared by the experts of “Fuji Optical”. Assistance program was carried out by virtue of close cooperation between representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan and local government bodies in this year as well. Doctor Akio Kanai expressed his satisfaction for construction- improvement works conducted and all necessary conditions created for refugees and IDPs in the recent years as well as expressed his gratitude to the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid, local executive bodies for provision of necessary assistance on the successful realization of the further visit of mission as in the previous years.
