The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the chairman of Republic Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance, Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the director of European zone of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society Mrs. Anitta Underlin. Highly appreciating the cooperation between Federation and Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, the projects realised for the settlement of problems of refugees and IDPs with the support of donors, Deputy Prime Minister stated that giving special consideration and attention to the international humanitarian organizations, creating all necessary conditions for their operation was one of the integral parts of state policy of Azerbaijan. About 80 international humanitarian aid organizations operated in the last 20 years for the support on the settlement of problems of refugees and IDPs, however, their number decreased by 30 which was normal case. The gradually growing economic opportunities of Azerbaijan enabled to undertake the solution of this problem. Azerbaijan standing in need of humanitarian assistance in the past is donor country at present. Expressing his regret over the non-constructive position of invading country in the result of which Nagorno Karabakh conflict was not solved yet, as well as refugees and IDPs that reached one million 200 thousand refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov connected these problems with injustice reigning in the world, double standards demonstrated by international authoritative organizations on the settlement of problem. However, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed his confidence that justice would be served as soon as possible, refugees and IDPs would return to their homelands as well as he emphasized the importance on further development of the cooperation between Federation and Red Crescent Society Azerbaijan, realisation of different program-projects at a higher level, transform of society into the essential one playing leading role in the determination of needs of refugees and IDPs as well as low-income population and provision of appropriate assistance. Expressing her gratitude for warm hospitality and condition created for cooperation between two organizations, Federation official Mrs. Anitta Underlin mentioned that she visited Azerbaijan 6 years and was proud of the countries’ progress during that period and stated that “developed countries have developed societies and we have witnessed it in Azerbaijan. Mrs. Anitta Underlin stated that she came for discussing and determining the ways of joining international humanitarian activity and expressed her confidence on achieving comprehensive cooperation in this field. Views were exchanged on the issues concerning this area as well as other matters of interest.
