The European deputies have visited the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs.

On the 14th January, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs, Garay Farhadov met with the member of the Parliament of Norway, Karin Volset, the member of the Parliament of Iceland, Ogmundur Yonasson, well-known political figure of Finland, the former member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Jaakko Laakso who were on visit to our country. Garay Farhadov who touched the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over of Nagorno-Karabakh stated that it was the priority issue for our country. 20 percent of Azerbaijan teritory was occupied in the result of Armenia's military aggression and 1.2 million of our compatriots became refugees and IDPs. The Deputy Chairman of the Committee said that this conflict was not a threat only to the Southern Caucasus, but also to entire world. Since Armenia uses Azerbaijani occupied territories for transition of narcotic drugs and prepares terrorist groups against different countries. Noting the aggressive policy of Armenia who is ignoring the resolutions of authoritative international organizations on the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, Garay Farhadov emphasized that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which caused the deaths and suffering of thousands of innocent people has not been solved due to Armenia’s non-constructive position. Garay Farhadov talked about the works carried out by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan Republic and international organisations for the improvement of the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons. It was noted that 82 modern settlements have been constructed till today at the expense of the State Oil Fund's thanks to the attention and care of our state leader. 180 thousand refugees and internally displaced persons were accommodated in these settlements. In addition, Garay Farhadov noted that the Azerbaijan government has developed a programme on "The Great Return" of internally displaced persons to Karabakh. The embassies operating in the country, representatives of international organizations and government agencies have been involved in the development of this program. The parliamentarians informing about their visit to Azerbaijan noted that they would hold a number of meetings during the visit. The parliamentarians noted that they will hold several meetings during the visit. The visitors said they are aware of Armenia- Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its consequences and the fact that one out of every 10 people is refugee or IDP and regard this conflict as a serious threat to the whole region.
