French senators got acquainted with living conditions of IDPs

The delegation led by the member of French Senate Ms. Natalie Gulen met with IDPs in October 8, during their visit to Azerbaijan. Firstly, delegation visited the dormitory of Baku Management and Technology College. Taking interest in the conditions created in the dormitory visitors had a look at the room where lives Abbas Aliyev’s family. The deputy chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs Garay Farhadov provided information about the historical roots of Armenia- Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its effects, the works implemented for solution of social problems of IDPs. It was mentioned that 20 % of Azerbaijani territories were occupied and more than 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs in the issue of Armenia’s military aggression. Delegation was informed about actions carried out for the improvement of living conditions of refugees and IDPs. It was noted that 82 modern settlements have been established in recent years. About 160 thousand refugees and IDPs were settled here. At present, efforts in this direction are intensively in progress. The questions of the visitors were responded during the meeting. Afterwards delegation of French senate familiarized with the living conditions of IDPs temporarily settled in Mushvigabad village of Garadagh region. It was brought to the attention of the visitors that, 211of 1440 apartments are one-room, 659 are two-room, 429 are three-room, 141are four-room during their acquaintance with the block. There had also been constructed community center, administrative building, first aid center, post office and two-exit fire department in the territory. The activities are being implemented also the new settlements and blocks are established in order to solve the social problems and improve living conditions of refugees and IDPs, at present. Visitors were at the house of IDP Nazila Taghiyeva from Aghdam region and visited 1300-seat senior secondary school established in the block. Senators emphasized that they believe in refugees and IDPs returning to their native lands as soon as possible and stated that they would inform french community about their conditions. Visitors highly appreciated works implemented for the improvement of social, living conditions of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan.
