European visitors highly appreciated the conditions created for refugees and IDPs

Deputy Prime Minister, the chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the European Parliament delegation on July 8. Development perspectives of bilateral relations, issues on Armenia –Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict were discussed and views were exchanged on a number of issues of mutual interest at the meeting. Ali Hasanov spoke about the history of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the works carried out for the improvement of social conditions of refugees and IDPs in our country. It was stated that 20% of Azerbaijan’s territories - Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions were occupied, more than one million 200 thousand Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs in the issue of Armenian military aggression against our country. It was mentioned that the aggressive policy of Armenia was repeatedly criticized in the decision and resolutions adopted by UN, OSCE, European Council and other influential international organizations and the withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories, the restoration of right to return of refugees and IDPs ousted from their native land was demanded. The chairman of the Committee informed the visitors about the works implemented by the President of Ilham Aliyev and international organizations for the improvement of social and living conditions of refugees and IDPs. It was stated that as a result of President Ilham Aliyev’s care and attention, U.S. $ 5,4 billion were spent on the solution of the problems of refuges and IDPs. 78 modern blocks were established for refugees and IDPs. More than 140 thousand refugees and IDPs were moved to these settlements. At present, efforts in this direction are intensively in progress. Emphasizing the close relations of Azerbaijan with European countries as well as European Parliament Ali Hasanov noted that the cultural events organized by the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, deputy of Milli Mejlis Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva in the different countries including France have special importance. Vice President of European People’s Party, the member of European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Mario David noted that it was his first visit to Baku and what he witnessed here left a great impression on him. The visitor said: “We are friend of Azerbaijan and we shall preserve the friendly relations”. Our aim is to learn positive changes here and to discuss various topics in your country as a friend of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan achieved great success during the short 20 years of independence. I highly appreciate the relations between Azerbaijan and European Parliament. Azerbaijan’s approval on “Trans Adriatic Pipeline” TAP project is very important for us. At the same time, it proves the sovereignty of Azerbaijan in the region. Giving detailed information about the party he represents Mario David stated that they were interested in cooperating with the ruling party of our country New Azerbaijan Party. On the same day the delegation visited the new block in Mushvigabad village of Garadagh region established for IDPs, met with them and acquainted with the conditions created for IDPs.
