Event on World Refugee Day

There was held an event dedicated to World Refugee Day jointly organized by the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Making speech at the event the Deputy Prime Minister, the chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs Mr. Ali Hasanov stated that the aim of Un General Assembly in declaring the 20 June as World Refugee Day every year is to bring this problem to the attention of the attention of the international community. Ali Hasanov gave information about the activities implemented by the government of the country and international humanitarian organizations in order to improve the living conditions of refugees and IDPs. It was mentioned that $ 5,4 billion were spent on the solution of the problem of refugees and IDPs in the issue of the President Ilham Aliyev’s care and attention, and modern settlements were established. 150 thousand of refugees and IDPs were moved to these settlements. At present, efforts in this direction are intensively in progress. Speaking about the damage caused by Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabagh conflict Ali Hasanov noted that the experience of assessing the damage caused by conflicts is being formed in the international arena. According to approximate calculations in this approach, the aggressive policy pursued by Armenia against our country caused more than $300 billion damage to Azerbaijan. Armenian people will have to pay this damage not the government of Armenia. Providing information about newly published book, three-volume “For the benefit of refugees and IDPs” the deputy prime minister stated that edition reflects large-scale works carried out by great leader Heydar Aliyev and the President Ilham Aliyev in order to improve living conditions of refugees and IDPs in our country. This new edition is very useful regarding the study of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the integral part of Azerbaijan and proper delivery of it to foreign citizens, as well as pursuing the successful projects in sequence directed at the solution of the problems of refugees and IDPs of our state. Then video was shown about the situation of Syrian refugees. Making the speech at the event the head of office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan Dag Sigurdsson noted that the number of refugees and IDPs has reached the highest level for the previous period since 1994 with the beginning of Syria crisis manifesting itself as the new factor of exile in the world. Giving information on the report reflecting the situation of refugees and IDPs of the organization he represents, Dag Sigurdsson emphasized that 55% of all refugees in the document are from 5 countries affected by war – Afghanistan, Somali, Iraq, Syria and Sudan.
