Good opportunities for development of cooperation between the European Parliament and Azerbaijan

The Deputy Prime Minister, the Chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs, Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the members of the European Parliament from Slovakia Boris Zala, Ms. Katarina Nevedalova and Roman Huna the head of the European Azerbaijan Society in Belgium. The visitors, firstly, got acquainted with the models, stands reflecting the photos of the activities in order to improve the living conditions of the refugees and IDPs and with the map reflecting the military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan in 1988-1993, at the meeting held in the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs. Ali Hasanov informed the visitors about the historical roots, results of Armenia- Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabagh conflict, the current conditions of refugees and IDPs, the works carried out to solve their social problems. It was stated, as a result of Armenian military aggression 20% of Azerbaijan's territory was occupied, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. It was noted that, the aggressive policy of Armenia was criticized in the decisions and resolutions adopted by the UN, OSCE, the European Council and other influential international organizations, the withdrawal of armed forces from Azerbaijani territories, the restoration of the right to return of refugees and IDPs ousted from their native lands was demanded. But Armenia doesn’t comply with the decisions and resolutions of international organizations. The negotiations have been conducted under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group for more than 20 years. Armenia, ignoring the demands of international communication and demonstrating non-constructive position continues illegal activity in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the works carried out in order to improve social, living conditions of refugees and IDPs. It was emphasized that as a result of the care and attention of the head of our state, 78 settlements were established for the refugees and IDPs. At present, works in this direction are being intensively continued. Boris Zala, the head of the delegation of the European Parliament, the member of Social-Democratic Party of Slovakia highly appreciated the achievements gained in recent years and said: “We follow the economic development and achievements gained by Azerbaijan and approach it with envy. It is a great success of Azerbaijan to achieve this kind of development in such a short period. Slovakian visitor, noting the importance of economic relations between the countries emphasized that mutual investment can further strengthen these relations. The members of the European Parliament, highly appreciating the works carried out for improvement of living conditions of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan stated that the strategic line of Azerbaijan is a right way in the development of our republic and establishment of friendly relations among neighboring countries and welcomed it.
