Canadian parliamentary delegation was reported about Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict

Delegation led by Barry Devolin, deputy chairman of the Canadian House of Commons who is on visit to Azerbaijan, met with the Deputy Prime Minister, chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov. Ali Hasanov reported about historical roots of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, its effects, problems caused by it, present state of refugees and IDPs, activities for settling their social problems. He stated that Armenia's aggression resulted in occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territories, and more than one million compatriots became refugees and IDPs. There was mentioned that Armenia's aggressive policy was denounced in decisions and resolutions adopted by UNO, OSCE, European Union and other influential international organisations, and was demanded withdrawal of armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, also restoration of the right of refugees and IDPs to return to their native lands from where they were driven out. Negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk group have been continuing for more than 20 years. The conflict should be settled in compliance with norms and principles of international law. Armenia, who ignores requirements of international community and holds destructive position, is still carrying out its illegal activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. The chairman of the committee spoke about the actions carried out by the President Ilham Aliyev and international organisations to better social and living conditions of refugees and IDPs. He noted that attention and care by the President in this matter resulted in allocation of US$ 5.4 milliard for solution of refugees' and IDPs' problems. 78 new settlements were built for refugees and IDPs. 140 thousand refugees and IDPs were settled at such settlements. Activities in this direction are underway. Touching upon the problems on relations between Azerbaijan and Canada, Ali Hasanov underlined significance of developing the relations. He also stressed that mutual visits of our delegations would contribute to expansion of the relations. Barry Devolin expressed their satisfaction with rapid development in Azerbaijan, high tolerance, and said they would make efforts to deliver the realities of Azerbaijan to the world community. At the end, the guests were presented the book "Ethnic cleansing in Armenia and information on over one million people having become refugees and IDPs upon occupation of 20% lands by Armenian military forces (1988-2011)" and discs of the film about the conflict. The delegation visited new district built in Mushfigabad, Garadagh, met with IDPs settled there and got familiar with conditions of the district.
