Establishment of Embassy of Spain in Azerbaijan will contribute to mutual economic cooperation to grow more active

The Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov met with the deputy chair of the Senate of Spain Juan Jose Lucas during his visit to Spain. Speaking about necessity of strengthening bilateral relations, Ali Hasanov touched upon the issues on development of cooperation in energy sector. He said State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic can establish its branch office and subsidiaries in Spain. The Deputy Prime Minister, mentioning the activity of companies of European countries in Azerbaijan, said Spanish experts or specialists could also activate in Azerbaijan. That is why, establishment of the Embassy of Spain in Azerbaijan will help profitable mutual economic cooperation to become more active. Juan Jose Lucas greeted the visitors and expressed his satisfaction with development of relations between Azerbaijan and Spain. He stated there was political will for establishing Embassy of Spain in Azerbaijan. But recent financial crisis caused damage to economy of Spain. The deputy chair of the Senate said that Spain was interested in expansion of relations with Azerbaijan in all fields. The Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan followed the processes in Spain with interest and expressed his hope for that Spain would cope with crisis soon. Then the delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo. The Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the guests and noted necessity of development of bilateral relations in all fields. He expressed his hope for establishment of diplomatic representation in Azerbaijan in a short period of time and underlined that this would reflect political will of the state leaders. The head of foreign policy department stressed significance of mutual profitable economic cooperation considering favourable geopolitical situation in Azerbaijan and access of Spain to the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The minister, expressing interest of the government of Spain in close cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of energy, construction and transport, said he hoped that Azerbaijan would support Spain’s nomination for non-permanent membership in UN Security Council in 2015-2016. Ali Hasanov thanked for warm reception and said Azerbaijan was interested in development of relations with Spain and there were great opportunities for that. Though Azerbaijan is a small country, it is in the centre of attention of Europe and the countries around the world. Azerbaijan is attractive with its energy resources and geopolitical situation. The Deputy Prime Minister noted one more significant factor for development of relations with Spain. That is the similarity between the peoples and traditions of the two states. Mentioning significance of developing economic cooperation, Ali Hasanov said Azerbaijan became an investor making investments in various spheres of world economy. Why should Azerbaijan not invest in economy of Spain too? Spain has experience in alternative energy and port construction sectors, and Spanish experts can be involved in relevant projects.
