Azerbaijan expects international community and European Union to take adequate steps for settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict

The delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, Chair of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs – Ali Hasanov is on official visit to Madrid. The aim of the visit is to hold hearings at the Senate of Spain in regard to the results of military attack of Armenia against Azerbaijan. On November 21, the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, head of the delegation Ali Hasanov met with the chair of the Senate of Spain Pio Garcia-Escudero Marquez. First, Ali Hasanov wrote his heartfelt words in Book of Honorable Guests of the Senate. The chair of the Senate Pio Garcia-Escudero Marquez stated the significance of development of relations in all field between Azerbaijan and Spain and said he hoped for further contribution of realized mutual visits to development of such relations. The head of the delegation Ali Hasanov thanked to the chair of the Senate for warm reception and said strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in all fields was very important. Necessity of more active inter-parliamentary relations was stressed and it was noted that this would cause further consolidation and development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Spain. There was stated that similarities between traditions and cultures of both people afford great opportunities to thoroughly develop the mutual cooperation. The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that for the last nine years Azerbaijan has been demonstrating unprecedented in the world history growth rate. Ali Hasanov said right management of oil and gas resources stimulated development of private sector and non-oil sectors of economy. The Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that the economy of Azerbaijan currently had more than 80% of total economy of the three states in South Caucasus and stated that Azerbaijan’s successful and rapid development was ensured. Ali Hasanov said the President Ilham Aliyev issued an Order on working out development strategy of Azerbaijan for the period till 2020. According to this strategy, no poor person would remain, non-oil sector would develop dynamically and Azerbaijan would become one of the developed countries and a country with high quality of life. Speaking about Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Ali Hasanov stressed that negotiations going on for 20 years under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group had no results. Though in four resolutions of UN Security Council on conflict settlement and other international organizations’ documents, Armenian forces are required to be withdrawn from the territories of Azerbaijan, these resolutions have not yet been fulfilled. Nearly 1 million people of Azerbaijan became refugees and IDPs as a result of occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories. No camps remained in the country today. Generally, 76 new settlements have been built for 26 thousand refugees and IDPs during this period. Ali Hasanov noted Azerbaijan supported peaceful solution to this conflict, but unfortunately injustice went on. However, Azerbaijani people’s patient is not excessive. The chair of the Senate of Spain Pio Garcia-Escudero Marquez said development strategy defined by the President Ilham Aliyev was a wise one. The chair of the Senate touched upon the issue of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and stated that the government of Spain supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and that hoped for the conflict would be solved through peace and dialogue. He mentioned the significance of expanding the geography of delivering to world community and European Union the fair position of Azerbaijan in settlement of the conflict. Pio Garcia-Escudero Marquez said Azerbaijan should be tolerant, because justice always wins. The chair of the Senate noted that expansion of economic cooperation of Azerbaijan with foreign states could also help the settlement of the conflict within norms of international law and principles of territorial integrity. Pio Garcia-Escudero Marquez mentioned that Spain was interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields and that involvement of Spanish experts in transport and construction projects, as well as in projects on creation of alternative energy sources was possible. Ali Hasanov mentioned Azerbaijan was interested in expanding relations with European Union. Thus, energy resources of the country were transported to Europe, but Azerbaijan expects international community and European Union to take adequate steps for settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict in return.
