An event was held on the occasion of the 89th anniversary of Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth

An event on subject of “Heydar Aliyev and modern Azerbaijan: settlement of the problems of refugees and IDPs is always at the centre of attention of the government” arranged by the State Committee on Deals of Refugees together with editorial office of “Azərbaycan” (“Azerbaijan”) paper, related to the 89th anniversary of nationwide leader of Azerbaijan people Heydar Aliyev’s birth was held at the Committee on May 3, by organization of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs. Executives of the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Republic, members of Milli Majlis elected from the IDP regions, heads of executive powers of the IDP regions, head of Social Development Fund of IDPs, Head of the representation of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, officers of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees took part in this event. The participants, accompanied by Ali Hasanov - Deputy Prime Minister, chair of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs, were at first introduced, at the foyer of the Committee, the exposition and photo-stands made by the State Committee on Deals of Refugees with regard to the twentieth anniversary of restoration of state independence of Azerbaijan Republic and reflecting numerous actions carried out by the government of Azerbaijan for solution of the problems of refugees and IDPs in the country. Then flowers were put before the bust of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in “Heydar Aliyev corner”. Besides, a film about the care of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev towards the refugees and IDPs was demonstrated. Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, chair of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov, who made speech at the event, stated that heritage and activities of Heydar Aliyev, who ensured perpetuity of Azerbaijan’s independence, great ideologist approaching the sense of life as to serve to his people that he loved so much, public and political figure, bearer of rich spirituality, leader of world politicians, and who had great statehood experience, will always live in hearts of Azerbaijan people as symbol of immortality of our independence. Heydar Aliyev was really an ideal person. He understood his soul, life and political activity as to serve to his people. Ali Hasanov brought to attention that after the second return of Great Leader to political power, his main activity concerned the primary problem of our state. He stated that together with trying to strengthen the independence of our state and for its being eternal, he used all opportunities to work out the problems of refugees and IDPs, to return them to their native lands through peace, and in this regard, to settle Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict peacefully. Ali Hasanov, speaking about the Great Leader’s attitude towards the people who became IDP as a result of the conflict, mentioned that the care of more than one million our cognates driven from their native lands, suffered intolerable privations as a result of Armenia’s aggression, was always at the centre of leader’s attention. That is why, serious efforts made for the solution of the problem through peace in 1993-2003, decrees and orders were signed to improve the condition of refugees and IDPs, complete legal framework related to social protection was created proper to international standards, under the guidance of Great Leader. Ali Hasanov also stated that national statehood conception of Heydar Aliyev is now carried out by successor of his moral and political heritage - the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev in high dynamism, and factors ensuring the consistent development of our state are strengthened year by year. Achieved successes show themselves in lives of refugees and IDPs. Then, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov, talking about the activities carried out for the improvement of living conditions of refugees and IDPs, stated that 4178 apartments would be built and put into operation of IDPs in the current year. Construction works are being implemented at present to improve housing and living conditions of IDPs in nine regions. Chair of the Committee stressed that 75 percent of IDPs lived in poverty at early 2000, but this figure became 18 percent last year. Ali Hasanov brought to attention that means spent to IDPs was nearly 900 USD, and this result had not been recorded in any disputable part of the world. In addition, Ali Hasanov noted that Great Leader, as one of the leaders of world policy, is the first Azerbaijani saying “I am proud of being an Azerbaijani!” Then Chair of the Committee mentioning the 20th year of the occupation of Shusha city by Armenian armed forces told, Azerbaijan could not exist without Shusha and lands would be released as a result of pursued purposeful policy, and improvement work would be fulfilled there after this. Two-volume book “Genocide of Azerbaijanis: bloody chronicle of history” made by editorial office of “Azərbaycan” (“Azerbaijan”) paper and devoted to ever living memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, was introduced at the event. Member of Milli Majlis, chief editor of “Azərbaycan” (“Azerbaijan”) paper Bakhtiyar Sadigov, Head of Gubadli REP Malik Isagov, Head of representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan Dag Sigurdson and an IDP of Lachin region Amirkhan Zeynalov made speech at the event. Speeches made sure that activities carried out by Great Leader and accounted for 10 years later became reality nowadays. The meeting expressed deep belief for refugees and IDPs’ return to their native lands as a result of purposeful policy of the Head of our state.
