Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Rovshan Rzayev met with Jeffrey Michael Labovitz, Director of the Operations and Emergency Situations Department of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva.
It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev identified addressing the problems of refugees and IDPs as one of the priorities of social policy, and First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva pays particular attention to the solution of educational, health and other humanitarian problems of people from this category.
They expressed satisfaction with the activities of UN agencies in our country, emphasizing that Azerbaijan also implemented known UN resolutions by ending the occupation of Armenia last autumn. The importance of clearing the liberated territories of mines and explosive remnants, and provision by Armenia the accurate mine maps in order to ensure the safe, voluntary and dignified return of IDPs to their homeland was underlined.
Jeffrey Michael Labovitz thanked for the warm welcome and spoke about the opportunities of his organization's cooperation with Azerbaijan. The views on joint projects with the IOM, in particular, activities to support the employment of IDPs were exchanged.
The head of IOM office in Azerbaijan Vladimir Giorgiyev, IOM employee, project coordinator Anar Iskandarov, media specialist Ilgar Khudiyev attended the meeting.
