On June 10, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Fuad Huseynov met with Nicolas Govaert, the expert of the European Commission’s Directorate for Civil Defense and Humanitarian Aid.
At the meeting, the guest was informed that Azerbaijan had liberated its territories from the occupation of Armenia, as a result of which IDPs had the opportunity to return to their places of permanent residence, and preparations for this had begun.
It was noted that the State Committee held awareness-raising events on mine safety in Aghdam, Tartar and Fuzuli, with the support of Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Nicolas Govaert, the expert of the European Commission’s Directorate for Civil Defense and Humanitarian Aid, thanked for the sincere meeting. He noted that the Azerbaijani government has been proactive in restoring areas damaged by the war. At the same time, he said that the European Union has allocated funds to provide assistance to people affected by the military conflict. Nicolas Govaert stressed the importance of continuing awareness-raising measures on mine safety.
The European Union was thanked for its projects held to support IDPs. It was noted that the State Committee will provide the necessary support for the implementation of future projects.
