Discussions are held on application of the Food Security Monitoring System in Azerbaijan

On September 2, two-day seminar dealing with “Presentation and Application of Food Security Monitoring System (FSMS)” organized by the UN World Food Program (WFP) began its work in Baku. At the opening of the seminar Deputy Prime Minister, the chairman of the State Committee on the Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Mr.Ali Hasanov, the UN resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Fikrat Akchura, head of the WFP office in our country Fuad Huseynov spoke about significance and importance of the subject. Mr.Ali Hasanov accentuated that two missions on assessing state of food security and social welfare systems of poor strata of people in Azerbaijan including internally displaced persons, WFP’s future role and activity in Azerbaijan paid a visit to Azerbaijan at the beginning of the current year, held consultations. As per missions’ opinion, compiling and applying FSMS passed through experience and demonstrated its high efficiency also in Azerbaijan, its joining WFP’s global network was recommended. It is possible to prevent the probable problems in this field in advance, on time by regularly analyzing state of food security in different contexts via this mechanism. Deputy Prime Minister touched upon the Nagorno Garabagh problem, mentioned our more than one million compatriots’ becoming refugees and internally displaced persons, noted with a feeling of regret Armenia’s still not giving up its expansionist policy and ignoring the documents passed by the respected international organizations. At the seminar, exchange of views on inclusive presentation of Food Security Monitoring System, learning and considering the experience gained in this field in the other countries, possible application of the system in Azerbaijan was held with the delegates representing various governmental organizations. There were presentations concerning the subject, discussions were held, suggestions and recommendations were expressed at the seminar. WFP’s experts, the ministries concerned and representatives of state committees attended the event.
