The refugee problem is topical for many countries today, and international discussions held in this area are of great importance, however, less care for the issues regarding IDPs is a matter of concern.
This was stated by Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, at his lecture to foreign diplomats on the state policy pursued in the field of work with refugees and IDPs at ADA University.
The diplomats were informed about the historical roots, causes and current situation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the humanitarian crisis faced by our country as a result of the conflict and its ongoing consequences. It was noted that four UN Security Council resolutions on immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the decisions and resolutions of other international organizations remain unfulfilled.
The diplomats were informed that addressing the social problems of IDPs is one of the priority directions of the social policy pursued by the head of state. Comprehensive measures are being taken under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev to improve the housing and living conditions and increase employment of IDPs. At the initiative and calling of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, the private sector joined the process and several residential complexes have already built for and put into use of IDPs.
It was underlined that the only permanent solution to the problems of IDPs in Azerbaijan is possible by liberation of the occupied territories of our country and thus providing the right of IDPs to return to their homeland in a dignified, voluntary and safe manner, pursuant to international law.
At the end, the questions of participants regarding international policy and humanitarian law concerning Azerbaijan and other countries of the world were answered.
Diplomats from Yemen, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Palestine, Laos, Senegal, Pakistan, Vietnam, Serbia, Argentina, Uruguay and Afghanistan attended the lecture on “Advanced foreign service program for foreign diplomats” advanced training course jointly organized by International Development Assistance Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ADA University for support of the development of human capital in developing countries.
