New project will be implemented for IDPs

On October 29, presentation of the regional project “Economic and social development of low-income IDPs and local people in the South Caucasus”, implemented by German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) jointly with GmbH and Social Fund for Development of Internally Displaced Persons (SFDI), funded by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) was held with the support of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. GIZ informed at the event, which was attended by representatives of various public agencies and international organizations, that the program, covering the South Caucasus with a total budget of 6 million Euro, includes the provision of support to the employment and establishment of new businesses of IDPs settled in Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as expansion of existing businesses and social integration of especially women and young people in IDP settlements. As a pilot stage it is planned to provide general development, vocational and professional knowledge and skills in order to improve the living conditions of low-income IDPs living in Aghdam, Barda and Mingachevir and the locals living together with them and contribute to the region`s economy. For this purpose, a variety of long and short-term practical trainings will be held and mentorship approach will be used. Joint activities will be carried out within the project as well to further improve the technical capabilities of public agencies engaged in the development of IDPs. Mr.Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Andrea Sulh, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Azerbaijan and Ms.Sonia Fontaine, Country Director of GIZ in Azerbaijan, Aydin Safikhanli, head of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and project manager Ms. Friederike Rochowanski made a speech at the presentation ceremony, they emphasized the importance of the project for IDPs and other low-income families. It should be noted that the official partners of the project are the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Social Fund for Development of IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
