28 JULY, 2017
On July 28, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid Mr. Ali Hasanov met with newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Teruyuki Katori. At the meeting held for acquaintance, congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment, Ali Hasanov wished him success in his activities in Azerbaijan and expressed his confidence that this appointment will play a crucial role in the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Japan for the sake of the interests of our states and peoples. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Azerbaijan progresses in the right direction under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and always achieves success.
For several years, the President of Azerbaijan has identified five strategic tasks: to minimize the level of poverty. This figure currently accounts for 5 percent. These tasks also include reducing of oil dependence. Mr. President demonstrated prospective approach in this field. In 2008, he has instructed that, oil-related income should be directed to the non-oil sector. We would face a lot of difficulties if otherwise. One of the other tasks in the spotlight is human rights protection and consistent fight against corruption. State programs have been adopted and are successfully executed in each strategic direction.
Noting that the only unsettled problem of the country is Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ali Hasanov highlighted that, the problem has not been resolved yet as a result of non-constructive position of Armenia that ignores resolutions of influential international organizations on the conflict. Expressing his gratitude for detailed information, Japanese diplomat expressed his satisfaction with his appointment to Azerbaijan as an Ambassador and said that he will serve mutual interests during his diplomatic activity in our country and will make every effort for further expansion of bilateral relations.
Teruyuki Katori noted that his country will continue to make every effort to resolve Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in peaceful way. Mentioning that he has visited the regions, the renovation works in Baku and the beautiful view of the city has made a deep impression on him and the development and progress of our country is evident, the Ambassador said that Azerbaijan's reputation is gradually increasing throughout the world.
The Ambassador underscored that, Azerbaijan has recently been strengthening not only in economic field but also in political field in international arena. In addition, Japanese companies are actively involved in the development of oil fields of Azerbaijan which is rich in natural resources and establishment of pipelines. Japanese companies are also interested in investing in Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector and I believe that, this in turn will lead to the further development of economic relations in future.
