An event dedicated to World Refugee Day was held in Baku

On June 20, an event dedicated to World Refugee Day was held with the organizational support of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Migration Service, UNHCR Representative Office in Azerbaijan, ADA University and International Eurasia Press Fund. At the event held in ADA University, the attendees firstly reviewed the handicrafts of refugee and IDP children. UNHCR Representative in Azerbaijan Furio De Angelis and Vice Rector Fariz Ismayilzade made welcome speeches at the event. Then a social-work video prepared under the global campaign “We stand together with refugees” was shown. Making a speech at the event, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said that World Refugee Day has been celebrated for 16 years but their return was not mentioned: “What do the leading countries around the world think? What did the states fighting for hegemony turn the world into? The territory of Azerbaijan has been occupied by Armenia for 25 years. The UN Security Council and other international organizations have taken resolutions, decisions on the liberation of our lands. But there is no yield”. Ali Hasanov highlighted that there is no international document to legally manage the IDPs in the world and said: “What document should protect the rights of 40 million IDPs in the world today? Every year, Azerbaijan raises this issue and they agree with us, but no such document is accepted. Let them learn the experience of the Azerbaijani state ".
