A meeting was held with the head of the representative office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan

Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of the Refugees and IDPs, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid Ali Hasanov met with the head of the representative office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan Dag Sigurdson on his request on May 21. At the meeting extensive exchange of ideas were made about the results of the visits of UNHCR assessment missions to Aghdam, Barda, Tartar, Goranboy on May 4-6 and Aghjabadi, Fuzuli and Beylagan on May 12-13 after the recent events in the front line and it was mentioned that a special reports will be prepared as a result of this. Dag Sigurdson stated that, as a result of the shooting the territories in the contact line by the large-caliber weapons and artillery by aggressor Armenian army on April, soldiers and civilians were killed, IDPs and local residents were seriously damaged, the houses were destroyed and the farms were damaged. UNHCR assessment missions saw all these as a result of their observations in the same territories. He also mentioned that, UN agencies in the country will be informed in detail on the conditions seen by UNHCR assessment missions of the representative office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan as a result of their visits to the areas located on the contact line. UN High Commissioner for Refugees expressed its concern for all the events that took place and highly appreciated the restoration works carried out by Azerbaijani government in the same territories currently. Dag Sigurdson added that he gave information to the head office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees on the situation that occurred in April during his visit to Geneva last week and senior officials of UN High Commissioner for Refugees were concerned about this. At the meeting sharing his impressions of the meeting with the soldiers and officers, civilians by visiting to Fuzuli, Aghdam and Tartar, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov highlighted that they have a high spirits and a strong sense of patriotism. He said that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev achieved the long-desired success of our people. Fighting spirit for the motherland and the liberation of our lands is at the high level both in servicemen- soldiers, officers and generals and civilians. The works done by the President of Azerbaijan are obvious. As a result of the courage shown by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, his will, and value to the servicemen we are sure that all our lands under the occupation will b liberated and the IDPs will return back to their native lands. Every time in his speeches the President Ilham Aliyev mentioned that, we don’t want war and support a peaceful resolution of the conflict. But if the enemy continues his provocations, powerful army of the Republic of Azerbaijan will liberate our occupied territories soon. We are sure of that. Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed that all the houses destroyed as a result of the shooting at the civilians by Armenia by roughly violating the international humanitarian law will be restored in high quality on the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, all the houses affected will be restored in a best level than before and will be handed over to the residents. He also stated that he witnessed that the visit of the President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva to the regions in frontline areas and their meetings with the soldiers and officers, residents of the villages here and IDPs created the high spirits in them and increased their confidence in victory.
