The US ambassador to Azerbaijan and the new head of USAID representation in Baku have been in State Committee on deals of refugees and internally displaced persons.

Mr Ali Hasanov, the deputy of Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, chair of the State Committee on deals of refugees and internally displaced persons and chair of the Republic Commission on International Humanitarian Aid, met Robert Secuta, the US ambassador to our country and Ms Michaela Meredith, new head of the representation of US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Baku on September 17. Ali Hasanov, the deputy of Prime Minister gave the guests more information on Azerbaijan realities, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Mountainous Garabakh conflict, the history of the problem, the situation of the refugees and internally displaced persons, besides the discussion of the issues of mutual interests. The deputy of Prime Minister stressed that Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan Republic pursues an independent policy and always seeks to strengthen and expand the mutual relations with the all countries of the world, as well as European Parliament. Even the head of the country takes definitive steps in order to save Europe from energy danger without avoiding any threat. However at such a time, the adoption of such an injustice resolution in European Parliament toward our country provokes pity. Ali Hasanov also noted that the main problem of Azerbaijan is Armenia-Azerbaijan, Mountainous Garabakh conflict. In order to resolve this conflict by peaceful means the co-chairs of OSCE Minsk group engage in this issue regularly, but there no any result in their activity. The major cause of this is the non-constructive position of Armenia and their attempts in keeping the conflict frozen. Firstly, the members of OSCE Minsk group should take resolute steps and resolve this problem, that is, the USA and France should conduct negotiations with Russia in order for the settlement of this dispute. On the other hand, if the major countries like the USA and France want to prevent aggressive Armenia which is dangerous both for the region and the world, they should take decisive practical steps and make Armenia obey the will of international union. But nowadays we see that the international union delays the settlement of this dispute and uses the problem for their benefit. Ali Hasanov said that close relations between USAID and Azerbaijan government have always been existed. We have assisted them in the implementation of their projects in all the way and will do. By expressing his gratitude for the invitation, Robert Secuta, the ambassador of the US to our country said that in spite of the continuation of Mountainous Garabakh conflict and the hard situation of refugees and displaced persons, your country have done lots of works in the direction of the resolution of their problems in terms of humanitarian point of view. From the first day I came here, I have voiced my opinion that, the term of “frozen conflict” etched in the memory of the people for a long time is incorrect, such thing does not exist. Ms. Michaela Meredith, the head of the USAID representation in Azerbaijan stressed that she is going to act here during the forthcoming two years. She expressed her gratitude for the high cooperation with USAID representation in Azerbaijan in the past years.
