Ambassador of the United States in Azerbaijan has interested in living conditions of the internally displaced persons

On March 4 Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met with the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to our country Robert Cekuta. The Committee Chairman Ali Hasanov gave information to Ambassador regarding the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, history of the problem, state of the refugees and internally displaced persons in our country. Committee Chairman stated that today Armenia cannot pursue an independent policy. The rulers of this country committed bloody murder against Azerbaijanis. Therefore this regime does not accept to return the lands by peace agreement. Due to this factor, Minsk Group cannot deliver the results. Noting that the Azerbaijani people and state are peaceful and our country develops rapidly, Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that during the last 10 years, the unemployment rate in Azerbaijan has fallen from 49 percent to 5 percent. Deputy Minister said: «President of the Azerbaijan Republic has specified 5 strategic development regime of the country. According to the strategy which intends for the period till 2020, no low-income person will remain in Azerbaijan. According to the other strategy Azerbaijan will be among the countries with high quality of life. In this period, oil-dependency should be completely eliminated. Fight against corruption should meet international demands. The last direction is related to the compliance of protection of human rights with international requirements». Talking about the relations of Azerbaijan and United States, Robert Cekuta stated that his purpose is to contribute to the development of relations between two friendly countries. Diplomat noted that his country approaches seriously to the solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, also said that the efforts are made for the peaceful settlement of the problem. Ambassador said: «We are concerned over the recent escalation of tension on the troops contact line. The sides should refrain from the steps that lead to aggravation of the situation. In our turn, we try to achieve progress in the resolution of the conflict working either with the Azerbaijani side or the Armenian». Afterwards Ambassador got acquainted with the condition created in a built block built newly for the 760 internally displaced persons in Masazyr settlement of Absheron settlement. By sharing his impressions with the journalists the Ambassador said. Today, I visited the place where the IDPs- the most important part of Azerbaijan settled. The purpose of my visit to Azerbaijan was to listening to people of various strata and to closely familiarize with Azerbaijan. One of the numerous issues for which the united States cooperate with Azerbaijan is to improve the welfare of internally displaced persons. The ambassador stressed that the activity in this direction should be expanded as well as told that we should look through the works done in the past, the current situation and build plans for the future. One of the most significant works to be done by the two countries is long-standing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which should be settled peacefully and as one of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group, the USA will increase its efforts in this direction together with other co-chairs and Azerbaijan.
