The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Azerbaijan was in the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs Mr. Ali Hasanov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Azerbaijan Heydar Al-Barrak on August 27. During the meeting, mainly, there was a talk about the processes taking place in Iraq today, refugees and IDPs as a result of these processes, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed concern of the government of Azerbaijan about what is happening in this country, ongoing processes and said that each year millions of innocent people suffer from such disputes, conflicts, a number of refugees and IDPs is increasingly growing. But unfortunately, the world turns a blind eye to it, ignores the death of millions of people, becoming refugees and IDPs. Focusing on what is happening in Iraq, Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the problems of refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of these issues, Ali Hasanov noted that unfortunately, the world community, influential international organizations implement their missions by making inconclusive statements, adopting resolutions remaining on paper, instead of taking concrete measures in order to resolve the conflicts, and in its turn, it results the decrease of trust and confidence in them day by day. The Deputy Prime Minister evaluated the remaining of 4 resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council demanding the withdrawal of Armenian occupying forces from the territory of Azerbaijan on paper more than 20 years, not achieving any concrete results in the solution of the conflict by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, 1 million 200 000 citizens of our country still living as refugees and internally displaced persons, as the results of this distrust and did not excluded that there are economical interests of political powers behind all of these. During the meeting, it was noted that as a result of the ongoing processes, Iraq faces the refugee problem; hundreds of Iraqi were forced to leave their homes and statement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees dated on June 20, 2014, mentions that total number of refugees in Iraq reached 1 million 400 000 and Iraq ranked number second in the world due to this figure. Diplomat expressed his regret that both friendly countries face such serious problems. During the meeting in which confidence was expressed for the end of such injustices, Iraqi diplomat expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and evaluated Iraq as a door for Azerbaijan to the Arab world and Azerbaijan as a door for Iraq to the South Caucasus. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed, views were exchanged in detail.
