Chaloka Beyani: I have never seen modern settlements built for internally displaced persons in any other place of the world as in Azerbaijan.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee on deals of the Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance, Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the United Nations Human Rights Council’ (UNHRC) Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Chaloka Beyani. During the meeting, Ali Hasanov stressed the importance of witnessing by foreign guests of the realities within the visit to our country. Deputy Prime Minister noted that today Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the only problem of our country. Ali Hasanov said: “The only wish of us is the UN Security Council’s ensuring the implementation of its four resolutions adopted in response to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. We do not have any other desire. But the groundless territorial claims of Armenia is unacceptable”. Deputy Prime Minister informed that the government of Azerbaijan carries out great work in order to meet the needs of refugees and IDPs in both legal and socio-economic fields. All 82 settlements built for internally displaced persons in the country meet modern standards. The work done for internally displaced persons by The President of Azerbaijan is obvious. Ali Hasanov said that damage inflicted on Azerbaijan by Armenia is being calculated and this process is about to end. It is more than $300 billion. One day Azerbaijani government will demand the payment of the damage as compensation from Armenia. Chaloka Beyani said that the purpose of his visit is to inspect the situation in the solution of the problems of IDPs. UN official emphasized that in the first place parties should reach peace agreement in order to ensure peaceful and stable return of refugees and IDPs to their homes. At the same time, resolutions adopted regarding to the settlement of conflict should be implemented. “We attach special importance to the UN’s approach to the territorial integrity and independence of Azerbaijan in our activities.” Chaloka Beyani noted that the government of Azerbaijan has done important work to improve the living conditions of refugees and IDPs. These works cover all fields such as science, education, health etc. New settlements built for internally displaced persons. I have never seen modern settlements built for internally displaced persons in any other place of the world as in Azerbaijan. We welcome the building of such settlements. Moreover, it is generally known that, of course, these settlements are for the temporary improvement of living conditions of internally displaced persons. At the end, the sides exchanged views on the issues of mutual interest.
