Former Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly got acquainted with the living condition of internally displaced persons.

The former chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly making a visit to Azerbaijan Riccardo Migliori and the head of the The Italian Institute for Asia and the Mediterranean Antonio Loche met with internally displaced persons on May 16. Firstly, guests visited dormitory of Baku Management and Technology College. The guests, interested in the condition of the dormitory had a look at the room where the family of internally displaced Abbas Aliyev from Fuzuli region lived. Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Garay Farhadov informed the guests about the historical roots and the results of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, works done towards the solution of social problems of refugees and internally displaced persons. It was noted that the aggressive policy of Armenia has been repeatedly condemned by the decisions and resolutions adopted by the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and other influential international organizations. Also, the withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories, restoration of the right to return of refugees and internally displaced persons driven out of their native lands have been required. However, Armenia, ignoring the requirements of the international community and holding non-constructive position in the negotiation process, continues its illegal activities in our occupied territories. Narcotic drugs are planted and cultivated in the uncontrolled territories, other dangerous types of transnational crime rages. That uncontrolled zone has become a transit route of large volume narcotics to the CIS and European countries. The guests were also given information about work done in order to improve the living condition of refugees and internally displaced persons. It was noted that 82 settlements have been constructed for the refugees and IDPs. More than 180 refugees and internally displaced persons have been settled in these settlements. Afterwards, the guests also got acquainted with the living condition of internally displaced persons temporarily settled in Masazir settlement. During familiarization with the block, the guests were informed that all the necessary social infrastructure facilities have been created for the residents in housing complex. It was brought to the attention that there were 90 one-room, 490 two-room, 170 three-room, 10 four-room apartments out of 760 houses constructed in a new block that covered an area of 12 hectares. 540-seat school, 280 seat kindergarten, a medical center etc. have been built in the block. At present, work towards solving social problems of refugees and internally displaced people, improving the living and housing condition is underway, new settlements and blocks are being constructed. Guests were put up tea table in the house of Arshad Piriyev, who was internally displaced from Zangilan, had a look at 540 seat secondary school building built in the block. European guests emphasized that they believed in return of refugees and IDPs to their native lands as soon as possible, stated that they would inform the European community about their condition. The guests highly appreciated the works done towards improving social, living and housing condition of refugees and internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan.
