Head of representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan visited State Committee for Refugees and IDPs

The Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance Mr. Ali Hasanov has received the Head of representation of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan Dag Sigurdson on 12 March. At the meeting long-term and sustainable activity of representation of UNHCR in Azerbaijan was positively valued and it was stated that the current efficient co-operation between UNHCR and our country was successfully continued in these days and Azerbaijan’s being a member of the Executive Committee of such a prestigious organization proves the above-stated. Activity done by the government of Azerbaijan to other countries in the field of humanitarian support, the work done and future duties in this regard have been analyzed and it was stated that the government had implemented large projects in the solution of problems of more than one million refugees and internally displaced people as a result the Armenian aggression against our land and significant funds had been expended on this field and this step of the government was positively assessed by the Heads of UNHCR and other influential international organizations. Visit of the delegation of Japanese company “Fuji Optical” Ltd. led by Dr. Akio Kanai to Azerbaijan in April providing ophthalmic services for refugees, internally displaced persons and asylum seekers, that visits Azerbaijan every year since 2015 with the initiative and organization of the UNHCR and the support of the government, investigating problems of internally displaced persons, the results of “An evaluation of the Age, Gender and Diversity mainstreaming” held among internally displaced persons in 2013 in cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan and a number of international and national NGOs by the representation of UNHCR in order to solve their problems were also discussed at the meeting. At the meeting, held in the condition of mutual exchange of ideas, the projects implemented by UNHCR and the future objectives of representation in Azerbaijan, the perspective plans of representation, support of Azerbaijani government to international humanitarian organizations, purposeful directing of their activity by the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance, opinions and suggestions on these issues were voiced at the meeting.
