Azerbaijan and Finland discussed the issues on development of relations in all spheres

The delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, Chair of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs – Ali Hasanov visited Helsinki on the initiative of Azerbaijan- Finland Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group.
On November 8, the Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov met with Eero Heynyaluoma, the chair of the Parliament of Finland. Head of the department for problems of refugees, IDPs and migration of the Office of Cabinet of Ministers – Gurban Sadigov, deputy minister for economic development - Sevinj Hasanova, director of Social Development Fund of IDPs, MP Ayaz Orujov, MPs Fazil Mustafa, Zahid Oruj, Jeyhun Osmanli took part at the event, as well.
Greeting the guests, Eero Heynyaluoma stated that the hearings on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict held at the Parliament of Finland the previous day were very interesting and he made the MPs of Finland, experts familiar with the main problem of the government of Azerbaijan. He expressed his hope for Azerbaijan-Finland Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group’s assistance in further development of relations. All opportunities for this are available. Giving information about the activity of the Parliament of Finland, E.Heynyaluoma underlined the significance of mutual visits. The Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed his gratitude for warm reception and said hearings held at the Parliament of Finland in connection with Nagorno Karabakh conflict were of great importance for Azerbaijan. Ali Hasanov stated that more than 30 year-period of the history of Azerbaijan was connected with the name of Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev. The people’s revival in all spheres, including social and political, economic and cultural fields was realized thanks to Heydar Aliyev. Return of Heydar Aliyev to power at insistence of people was the basis for important reforms in political and economic life of Azerbaijan. “Contract of the Century” signed in 1994 aimed at directing both political and economic benefit from oil production to the future and welfare of Azerbaijani people.
Ali Hasanov stated that today’s successful foreign policy increased Azerbaijan’s influence in international arena. Underlining that Azerbaijan was a leader in the region, the Deputy Prime Minister stated Azerbaijan’s economy accounted for 80 percent of economy of the South Caucasus.
Ali Hasanov said according to development strategy of Azerbaijan for the period till 2020 specified by President Ilham Aliyev, no low-income person would remain in Azerbaijan, non-oil sector would dynamically develop, and Azerbaijan would be among the countries with high quality of life. Ali Hasanov, giving detailed information about Nagorno Karabakh conflict, mentioned that negotiations held under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group for more than 20 years yielded no results. However, Azerbaijan in its turn fulfils all commitments and resolutions. Four resolutions of UN Security Council on freeing the occupied Nagorno Karabakh region and adjacent territories have not yet been fulfilled by Armenia. Ali Hasanov said he hoped for the settlement of the conflict through peace. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the government of Finland for support in Azerbaijan’s being selected a non-permanent member of UN Security Council. Mentioning Azerbaijan’s interest in development of relations between Azerbaijan and Finland, Ali Hasanov invited the chair of the parliament to visit Azerbaijan. Eero Heynyaluoma, the chair of the Parliament of Finland thanked for invitation and expressed sureness for development of relations between the two countries in all spheres, particularly in trade. The chair of the Parliament said that the strategy of President Ilham Aliyev for the period till 2020 pleased him.
Eero Heynyaluoma expressed hope that inter-parliamentary friendship group’s activity would help development of relations in all spheres. Then they got acquainted with the parliament of Finland.
