Members of the European Parliament met with internally displaced persons in Aghdam district.

Members of the European Parliament came to Aghdam on July 16 within the framework of their visit to Azerbaijan. Meeting with the members of the European Parliament was held at Aghdam region Executive Power The head of region Executive Power Nizami Sadigov gave detailed information to the guests about the problems of the people driven out of their native lands as a result of the Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan. It was informed that Aghdam district was occupied in 1993. 50 thousand out of 180 thousand district inhabitants settled in Baku, 90 thousand dwelled in non-occupied areas of Aghdam and the rest of the inhabitants settled in 62 regions of the republic. It was noted that Azerbaijani State had taken large-scale measures to improve life conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons within its own means. 17 settlements were built for internally displaced persons only in Aghdam. N.Sadigov conveyed his anxiety for frequent violation of the ceasefire regime by Armenians, 9-year old Fariz Badalov’s killing by Armenian sniper fire, tragic murder of a 13-year-old girl in Alibayli village of Tovuz district, expressed his confidence in this visit to yield positive result. Then Members of the European Parliament came to the new settlement brought into use of internally displaced persons in November, 2010 in the territory of Guzanli village. It was emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev and the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva had attended the opening ceremony of the settlement. 2,8 thousand internally displaced persons dwelled in 689 houses in the settlement. The guests coming to the school №18 situated in Guzanli settlement watched photo stand reflecting the pre-occupation condition of Aghdam district. The information about the difficulties internally displaced persons come across as a result of Armenian occupation was given. It was stated that 6000 residents had been killed in Aghdam district 73 % of which is still under occupation. Internally displaced persons brought their anxiety about 4 statements issued by UN Security Council on the immediate liberation of Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenians that had not yet implemented, to the guests’ attention. European guests visited internally displaced person Oruj Jabbarov’s home. The host spoke of our state leader’s great attention and care towards refugee and internally displaced persons, noted that their greatest dream was to return back to their own home. He expressed his anxiety that Armenia was continuing its expansionist policy and defying the orders of international law, asked members of the European Parliament to deliver Azerbaijan truths to the World Community and approach the fair position of official Baku attentively. The guests visited Garabagh invalid Fakhraddin Rahimov’s home. Then members of the European Parliament were at the cultural center of the district. It was informed that military personals had lived there before. Aghdam cultural center was restored again according to the order given by the President Ilham Aliyev. Garabagh, as well as Aghdam was one of the old cultural centers of Azerbaijan and the state always approaches it with special attention. The member of the National Assembly Fuad Muradov accompanying the guests stated that the extension of the European guests’ visits to the front zone was related with our state’s and non-governmental organizations’ intensifying attempts to deliver Azerbaijan truths to the World Community. I believe that these visits will produce an effect soon. Expressing his impressions connected with the visit, Portuguese member of the European Parliament Jose Manuel Fernandes noted that news about 9-year old Fariz Badalov’s killing by Armenian sniper fire, 13-year-old Aygun Shahmaliyeva’s death as a result of Armenian diversion had regretted them very much. Children’s becoming war victims is impermissible. I’ll raise question about these tragic events in Europe Parliament. As Azerbaijan people are hospitable and peace-loving and support solution of the conflict through negotiations. Member of the Belgium Parliament Alan Destex emphasized that he was defender of a fair solution of Nagorno Garabagh problem soon. “The conflict’s lasting so long makes us anxious. The fact that OSCE Minsk group has not yet achieved positive result creates feeling of regret.” French member of the European Parliament Gaston Franco noted that they supported a solution to this problem within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. During the today’s visit we have got acquainted with the essence of the problem more closely. I regret deeply that Azerbaijan have fallen a sacrifice to the great geopolitical games. European Union should support the fair solution of this issue putting forth its strength. 13-year-old Aygun Shahmaliyeva’s murder by Armenians is dreadful incident and disgrace to humanity.
