Umid settlement welcomes new residents

Large-scale measures are being carried out to solve the social problems of IDPs and improve their housing and living conditions under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Residential complexes and settlements with the necessary infrastructure are built and put into use, thousands of IDP families are provided with new houses and apartments every year. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva keeps the issue of the relocation of IDPs who are still living under severe conditions, in damaged and useless buildings in Baku and Sumgait to new apartments in the first place under control, and the instructions are constantly implemented. According to the “State Program on improvement of living conditions and increasing the employment of refugees and IDPs” approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, new residential buildings for 300 families built in Umid settlement of Garadagh district of Baku under the second stage have already received its first residents. First of all, IDPs living under severe conditions which are dangerous for life have been relocated here. 188 internally displaced families temporarily settled in the settlement No.11 in Puta settlement of Garadagh district, building of the bath No.59, the mine house No.1, ATS building in Sahil settlement, structures in the military camp, in the administrative building and garage of the former autobase in Gobustan, the administrative building of the road maintenance office No.8 and the military camp in Alat settlement have been provided with new apartments. Those who have been relocated to Umid settlement are mainly IDPs from Lachin, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli, Jabrayil and Shusha. The relocation to new apartments continues. It should be noted that Umid settlement was founded by commissioning 110 private houses built in 1999 for refugees and IDPs. According to the State Program, in 2014, 3 five-storey buildings for 200 internally displaced families and a school for 220 pupils were built and put into use under the first stage. And under the second stage, in addition to residential buildings, a kindergarten for 140 children, administrative building, medical center, club-community center and boiler room were constructed in the area.
