Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the country Bert Shufs on January 23. Saying bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Belgium develop successful and there is a good potential for further strengthening of relations in educational and other areas, Ali Hasanov expressed the importance of expanding cooperation in all spheres during the activity of Ambassador. During the meeting, Ali Hasanov said that our country won a high reputation in the international by gaining great achievements. Today, Azerbaijan is a place where democratic and human values have been established, a worthy member of the world community, a country growing constantly and having sustainable economy. Of course, these successes have been achieved as a result of thoughtful and far-sighted policy of the President Ilham Aliyev, based on development strategy of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. He also mentioned that as a result of far-sighted policy and strenuous activity of the President Ilham Aliyev, today Azerbaijan has become one of the most dynamically developing countries of the world. The new models are applied in the country at the initiative of Mr. President. Asan Service is an example for the whole world in this field. Efficient management mechanism established for refugees and IDPs in the country is also an example in the world as Azerbaijani model. Today, Azerbaijan is a focus of attention of the world due to the rate of growth, tolerance, peacekeeping activities, as well as known for its natural resources, geographical position and interdependent policy. Our country performs all conventions joined. Making a report on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the historical roots and causes of the problem, Deputy Prime Minister said that Azerbaijan has been subjected to the military aggression of Armenia and as a result of this, 20 percent of our lands- Nagorno Karabakh and 7 regions in the surrounding areas being our historical lands were occupied, ethnic cleansing was carried out in these areas and people more than one million had become refugees and IDPs. It was noted that, since the resettlement of Armenians in our ancient lands there were ethnic and national problems in the region, Azerbaijanis were subjected to mass genocide and deportation. Stating the resettlement of Armenians has began in Azerbaijani lands 200 years ago, Ali Hasanov emphasized that "Maragha-150" monument built in 1978 by them, as well as archive documents of Russian Empire proved it. Ali Hasanov said that the international organizations had expressed their position on the conflict. UN Security Council has 4 resolutions on unconditional and immediate withdrawal of Armenian armed troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, OSCE, Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Alignment Movement and other international organizations have the relevant decisions and resolutions. However, aggressor Armenia ignores the norms of international law, does not comply with the decisions of international organizations. Armenia does not want peace, tends to remain the status quo unchanged, so the conflict is not solved. The continuation of the current status quo keeps Armenia out of great regional projects, further accelerates its economic decline. The President of Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that he supports the resolution of the conflict through negotiations and demonstrates the political will and consistent position on this. Expressing satisfaction over the appointment of ambassador to Azerbaijan, Bert Shufs said that he has been to Azerbaijan in 2012, and fascinated by the beauty of Baku, as well as sincerity of our people. Stressing the purpose of his activities will be to continue the good relations between our countries, the Ambassador noted that he would make every efforts to explore the economic opportunities for cooperation within the interests of both countries. Noting Belgian companies operate in a number of fields in Azerbaijan, the Ambassador Bert Shufs said that the businessmen of his country were always open to work with Azerbaijani companies. The diplomat emphasized the rapid growth of Azerbaijan, further development of the reputation our country in internal arena, and said that he had acquainted with Strategic road map approved by the President of country Mr. Ilham Aliyev and he hoped that it would be carried out successfully in future. At the same time, he emphasized that his country would make every efforts to solve Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict in a peaceful way.
