Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov met with a delegation led by Special Representative of European Union for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber on October 25. Discussions were made on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and efforts to resolve it, as well as various aspects of the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union at the meeting. Herbert Salber said that he will be in country's western region during his visit to Azerbaijan. He stated that his main purpose is to visit areas close to the frontline, as well as to become familiar with the conditions created for refugees and IDPs. Saying many incidents happened in the world over the past year, Ali Hasanov reported about Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, its history and the current state of negotiations to solve the problem. Reminding an opinion on that the status of an autonomous republic could be given to Nagorno Karabakh of President Ilham Aliyev, Ali Hasanov stated that it could be the biggest concession to Armenia. Emphasizing that Armenian government is the biggest obstacle in resolving the conflict, Deputy Prime Minister said: “Because this regime came to power on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. More precisely, it came to power on the blood of the Azerbaijanis. During the last negotiations the settlement of the conflict by stages was discussed too. The issue of the settlement of the conflict in this way was also proposed previously. But at that time rallies began in Armenia. President Levon Ter-Petrosyan was resigned. Rallies began again in Armenia about a month after the issues were emerged related to the settlement of the conflict in stages in the last negotiations. I think all these are deliberate issues. This is another ploy of them to prolong the time.” Referring to the events in contact line of troops on April this year, Ali Hasanov stated that, during the battles that took place in early April, Azerbaijani Armed Forces decently responded to a provocation of the Armenian army. “On April 28, the Armenian armed forces fired civilians and settlements using heavy artillery. But the provocation of Armenians did not scare our people. In April events monolithic unity of people, army and President was displayed in Azerbaijan.”-said Deputy Prime Minister. Chairman of Committee mentioned that, today Azerbaijan is being developed, set up a legal state, applies the principles of market economy and is developing the democratic principles day by day. Herbert Salber stated that intensive diplomatic negotiation process started to find a solution for the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict after the events of April. He said that he hopes for positive results toward the solution of the problem.
