Azerbaijan`s Deputy Premier, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met with U.S. Ambassador to the country Robert Sekuta. Hasanov recalled President Ilham Aliyev`s trip to the U.S. and his meetings there. “This visit will contribute to the expansion of cooperation between the two countries.” Sekuta said that he has visited Yevlakh, Barda, Goranboy and Tartar regions where he met with IDPs. He hailed the Azerbaijani government`s efforts to improve living conditions of refugees and IDPs. The Ambassador also underlined the opportunities for deepening U.S.-Azerbaijani ties in a variety of fields.
Referring to his visit to the USA at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister stated: "On April 19-21 of this year, UN General Assembly held a special session to discuss the state of the drugs problem in the world. Based on the instructions of the Mr. President, a delegation led by me also took part in the same event as a chairman of State Commission on Fight against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking and I spoke on behalf of the Azerbaijani government. The first five persons were given a speech from the main tribune in the special session of UN General Assembly and one of them was the delegation of Azerbaijan. Of course, this was an issue arousing from the attitude towards the government and the President of Azerbaijan Republic. In our speech in the special session, we stated that, Afghan drugs entered the country with 3 route before and 4th route was organized in the territories under the occupation, as a result of lack of 12 our state borders under our control, and being under the control of Armenia, a lot of drugs are cultivated in those occupied territories by the Armenians, they are prepared in the special laboratories there and delivered to abroad for sale. We stated the facts that the guns are purchased by the revenues obtained from that and directed to our country In addition to that, we mentioned that there are the cases of formation of special military units and sending to the conflict zones around the world there."
After the events occurred in April, providing information about his visit to Fuzuli, Aghdam and Tartar regions Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that, as a result of shelling of settlements of Aghdam, Tartar and Aghjabadi regions and civil population by the Armenians, 17 IDPs were martyred, totally 452 apartments resided by IDPs were damaged, 15 of them were completely and 437 of them were partially destroyed and 311 large and small livestock was perished. But despite of all this, local population continues to live in the native lands by believing the power of our army, sees and highly appreciate the strong support, attention and care of Azerbaijani government and personally Mr. President. All the houses affected as a result of the Armenian provocative attacks are restored at a higher level than before by the instructions of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev and all these works will be completed as soon as possible. In addition, all material damage caused to the IDPs was calculated. Bank accounts were opened for each of them and the funds were transferred to their private accounts.
At the meeting, the US Ambassador in Azerbaijan Robert Sekuta stated that, in spite of the continuation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the difficult situation of IDPs, when we review the works done from the humanitarian point of view, we can say that your country has done a lot for the solution of their problems. From the first day I came here, I expressed an opinion that the statement of "frozen conflict" which was embodied in memory of the people for many years is wrong. There is no such a thing.
Ali Hasanov added in the end that, the President of Azerbaijan Republic repeatedly stated that Azerbaijan will never allow the establishment of a second Armenian state on its lands and Nagorno-Karabakh will never be independent. We want to solve the problem peacefully. At the same time, Mr. President stated: "We don’t want to see even Armenian mothers with tearful eyes." This is the humanism of Mr. President.
