On March 16, Deputy Chairmen of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Garay Farhadov and Fuad Huseynov met with the Chief of the theatre of "Aloff" carring out activity in the London Sənan Əliyev and British producer lady Hannah Eidinow who visited our country. The information was given to the visitor regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, history of the problem, situation of refugees and internally displaced persons in our country. It was mentioned that, as a result of the ongoing complex political processes in the South Caucasus region over the past 200 years, Azerbaijanis have repeatedly been subjected to forcible expulsion from their homes, as well as the policy of ethnic cleansing and deportation. Deputy Chairman of the Committee brought to the visitors’ attention that, as a result of military aggression by the Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijan, 20 percent of the Azerbaijani lands- the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, as well as 7 adjacent regions were occupied, more than one million compatriots became refugees and internally displaced persons, national and cultural resources were plundered, all the infrastructures were destroyed. In the meeting the visitor was notified that this conflict is a threat not only for South Caucasus region, but also for the entire world. Currently, Armenia uses the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as a transit for transportation of drugs, prepares terrorist groups directed to various countries. During the meeting it was brought to the attention that, the government of Azerbaijan does great works both in legal and socio-economic fields in order to meet the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons. 89 modern settlements were built at the expense of funds allocated by the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 230 thousand refugees and internally displaced persons moved to the new settlement and this process continues. Stating that being informed about Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its results, the visitor pointed out that one of every 10 persons in Azerbaijan is refugee and internally displaced person. This conflict is a serious problem for the entire region.
